Privacy Policy
Manila Scanner for iPhone and Android · Effective 28 August 2026
The short version Manila Scanner collects nothing. It has no account, no analytics, no crash reporter and no server to send anything to. Your scans stay on your phone until you choose to share them.
What the app stores, and where
Scans, the PDFs made from them, and your settings are written to Manila Scanner’s own private storage on your phone — the app’s sandbox on iOS, its private app storage on Android. Other apps cannot read it. Nothing is copied anywhere else. Uninstalling deletes all of it, which is why the app offers a backup file — there is no cloud copy to fall back on.
Permissions, and what each is for
- Camera — the only way paper gets in, and the only permission Manila Scanner ever asks for, on either platform. Photos are written straight to the app’s own storage.
- Choosing a photo you already have — your phone shows its own picker (the iOS photo picker, or the Android photo picker) and hands the app a copy of just the images you chose. This needs no permission, and the app never gains access to your photo library or gallery.
- Choosing a backup file to restore — the same arrangement through the system file picker: the app is handed a copy of the one file you picked, and nothing else.
Manila Scanner asks for nothing else. There is no location access, no
contacts, no microphone, and no advertising identifier. On Android the
entire app declares a single permission, CAMERA; on iOS the
camera is the only prompt you will ever see.
What leaves your device
Only what you send, when you send it. Tapping Share, Export or Print hands the file to your phone’s own share sheet, and from there it goes wherever you direct it — mail, a messaging app, cloud storage, a printer. That transfer is between you and whichever app or service you chose; Manila Scanner is not part of it and keeps no record of it.
What the app does not do
- No account, sign-in or profile.
- No analytics, telemetry or usage tracking.
- No third-party crash reporter or advertising SDK.
- No servers. The app has no way to upload anything, so it cannot.
- No selling or sharing of personal information, because none is collected.
Manila Scanner works in airplane mode. That is the simplest proof of all of the above, and you can check it yourself in about ten seconds.
Children
The app collects no personal information from anyone, of any age, and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Since the app collects nothing, any change would be about wording rather than practice — and if that ever stopped being true, it would be said plainly here first.
