Scanning a document

Open the app and tap Capture. Point at a page and press the shutter; take as many pages as you need, then tap Done. Nothing is saved to your library until you do, so backing out of the camera leaves nothing behind. Tap the photo button on the capture screen to bring in pictures you have already taken instead.

It did not find the edges of my page

That page is marked in amber and kept whole rather than cropped badly, so you can always see which ones need a look. Tap it, then Redo crop, and drag the corners; a loupe follows your finger so you can see exactly where each one lands. Your original photo is never overwritten, so a crop can be redone weeks later.

Detection works best with the whole page in frame, on a surface a different shade from the paper, in even light.

Getting a PDF out

Open a document and tap Share PDF. Your device's own share sheet takes it from there — Save to Files, Mail, Messages, a printer, or whichever app you prefer. Export as… offers A4, Letter, or the image's own proportions, and can write one image file per page instead.

Backing up, and restoring

Settings › Back up writes your whole library — every original, every crop, every setting — to a single archive file you can keep wherever you like. Restore reads it back, either merging with what is there or replacing it.

Because there is no cloud copy, that file is the only way back if the device is lost. Uninstalling the app deletes everything it holds.

Changing the language

Settings › Language. It follows your device by default and is available in sixteen languages: English, Vietnamese, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Arabic, Hindi, Thai and Turkish.

Does it need a connection?

No. Manila Scanner has no account, no server and no networking code at all. It works in airplane mode on first launch and forever after, which you can check in about ten seconds. Nothing you scan is collected or transmitted — see the privacy policy.

Deleting your data

Everything lives on your device. Delete a page or a document in the app — both offer an undo for a few seconds, then the files are gone — or delete the app to remove all of it at once. There is nothing held anywhere else, so there is no request to make of us and no account to close.

Requirements

iOS 15.0 or later, on iPhone and iPad. A camera is needed to scan; without one you can still import photos and work on them.
